5 places to visit on your business trip to Berlin
Everyone knows what it’s like to be on a business trip and not have time to explore the city. If this has ever happened to you with Berlin, we’ve put together 5 little activities for you that will still allow you to take a look at the typical things you need to do in the German capital:
Eat Berlin currywurst
The most important thing in a working day is definitely eating! Not because work is so exhausting, but because you need a break from time to time to recharge your batteries when the day is so intense. You don’t have to go to a fancy restaurant to enjoy that in Berlin. Take a break and get a currywurst at a snack bar at Curry 36 or Konnopke. This is a fried or cooked sausage with tomato sauce and a little curry powder on top. Plus fries with mayonnaise and ketchup…. and of course a cold beer to go with it. What more do you need?
Brandenburg Gate and Tiergarten
You only have a few hours left before heading to the airport? Whether by day or night, the Brandenburg Gate is always magnificent and unique to experience. If you have a little more time, you can walk and relax in the Tiergarten or take a short historical tour of the main monuments in the park. Don’t forget to pass by the Reichstag as well.
Alexanderplatz
Easy to reach by S-Bahn or U-Bahn is the Alexanderplatz. Here there is not the Prussian past to discover, but rather the more recent past of Berlin. This square is a reminder of the division of the city during the Cold War. Time for a photo from the legendary TV Tower and you will have a nice memory to share with your friends and family. If you have more time, don’t miss the parade street of the former GDR. The impressive Karl-Marx-Allee offers a mixture of socialist classicism on a length of 3 km and 90 meters wide.
From West to East – a bus ride with the number 100
No time for tourism, but maybe for a bus ride. From Zoo station, line 100 will take you to Alexanderplatz. On the way there you will meet many important buildings of Berlin. You start at the former main station of West Berlin, also known as the scene from the book “Christiane F.”, right next to the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church. It commemorates the destruction of the Second World War. The ride will take you past the entrance to the Berlin Zoo, known as the Elephant Gate. Here stands a replica of the original elephant destroyed in the war in 1889. Continue to Tiergarten, where you will see the House of World Cultures, the Brandenburg Gate and the famous avenue “Unter den Linden”. This beautiful ride ends with the Museum Island and Alexanderplatz. From here you will find a direct connection to the main train station and Berlin airport.
Nö!
Nö! is a wine gallery, café, restaurant and small oasis in the middle of the big city. It is located just a few minutes walk from the Brandenburg Gate. Here in the old government quarter in Friedrichstadt, people meet after a meeting for a glass of German Riesling, a fruity Italian or a strong Spanish. To accompany it, enjoy a homemade pasta or one of the various tarte flambées. In summer, life takes place outside in a cozy garden atmosphere. In winter you sit comfortably in the over 100-year-old rooms of the Nö! Whether you like just something small, something sweet, salads or something more on your plate, the Cafè Nö! with its exquisite wines, southern German and Mediterranean cuisine, is our insider tip for Berlin. Pssst!
